LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell head men's basketball coach Dave Paulsen will be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame on Oct. 9th at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Conn. Paulsen is being honored for his successful eight-year tenure as head coach at Williams College, where he led the Ephs to a 170-53 record and the 2003 Division III national championship.
A 1987 Williams grad, Paulsen was the head coach at his alma mater prior to being named Bucknell's head coach in 2008. He won 76.2 percent of his games at Williams, and his 2002-03 team was the first New England Division III team to win the NCAA title. The following year he guided Williams to a second place finish.
That 2002-03 team finished with a school-record 31 wins with only one loss. In 2003-04, the Ephs went 30-2 and set a Williams record with 19 consecutive in-season wins. Another highlight from the 2003-04 season came when Paulsen directed his Ephs to a 78-71 win over Division I Holy Cross, snapping the Crusaders' 14-game home court win streak.
Paulsen was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) National Coach of the Year in both 2003 and 2004. Three times Paulsen was named the NESCAC Coach of the Year and twice he earned the NABC New England Coach of the Year award. Four times Paulsen led the Ephs to the NCAA Tournament (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007) and three times Williams won the NESCAC title (2003, 2004, 2007).
Paulsen, who also had head coaching stints at St. Lawrence (1994-97) and Le Moyne (1997-2000), is entering his second year at Bucknell in 2009-10. He has a lifetime coaching record of 269-143 (.653).
