LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell volleyball's Emily Sawanobori (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) was selected as the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday. The sophomore libero was named to the St. Francis (N.Y.) Invitational All-Tournament Team last weekend after leading the Bison to an early 2-1 record.
Sawanobori recorded 58 digs in three matches for an average of 5.27 digs per set. That total was aided by a career-high 23 set in the contest with St. Francis on Sunday morning. Sawanobori also tallied a career high in service aces during that match with six. She finished the weekend with 10 aces total (.91/set).
Sawanobori's play helped Bucknell to win its first two matches of the season, getting the 3-0 victory against St. Peter's on Friday and a 3-2 win over St. Francis a day later. It was the first time since the 1999 team defeated Wagner and Fairleigh Dickinson that the Bison won their first two matches of the season.
This is the first Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week award for Sawanobori.
Bucknell returns to the court on Saturday, Sept. 5 when it plays Marist (12:30 p.m.) and Bryant (4:30 p.m.) at the Marist Invitational in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The squad continues with the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 6 with an 11 a.m. matchup against Providence.
