Bucknell Baseball Players Ben Allen and Andrew Brouse Lead Summer League Squad to Prospect League Championship Series

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Ben Allen (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) and Andrew Brouse (Kreamer, Pa./Midd-West), both seniors-to-be on the Bucknell baseball squad, have been busy this summer, playing for the Chillicothe Paints (Ohio) in the Prospect League. The veteran duo led the Paints to an East Division title and a berth in the best-of-three championship series. Game two of that set will take place Wednesday night in Quincy, Ill., against the Quincy Gems.
Chillicothe, which posted a 31-23 record during the regular season, lost game one of the championship series by a 4-2 score Monday evening, meaning it must win two consecutive games to claim the title. Game three, if necessary, is slated for Thursday.
Allen, an Academic All-District honoree in 2009, is hitting .314 with one home run and 22 runs batted in this summer. He ranks seventh in the league in hitting and his 26 runs scored places him second on the team behind only Brouse. Allen, who has appeared in 49 games, is tied for second on the squad in RBIs and lists second with seven stolen bases. His 59 hits are tied for first on the team with Brouse.
Brouse is hitting a team-best .316, which places him fifth in the league. He leads the team in games played (51), runs (33), hits (59), doubles (14) and batting average. Brouse, who was a First Team All-Patriot League selection last spring, has also hit four home runs and driven in 17 runs.
Allen and Brouse, who both participated in last month's Prospect League All-Star Game, helped Bucknell to its sixth Patriot League regular-season title in 14 years in 2009. The Bison finished the season 22-25 and 13-7 in Patriot League play.
B.J. LaRosa Helps Bourne Braves Win Cape Cod League Title
Rising senior catcher B.J. LaRosa was also involved in summer league championship action this week. He was a late addition to the Bourne Braves roster and appeared in eight games during the regular season, hitting .227 with four runs batted in. He appeared in one postseason game for the Braves, who won the title by sweeping the two-game championship series against Cotuit.
