Bucknell Announces Tentative 2009-10 Men's Basketball Schedule

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's basketball team's 2009-10 schedule has been tentatively announced, and Dave Paulsen's second season as head coach will begin on Friday, Nov. 13 at the World Vision Basketball Invitational, hosted by Providence. The Bison will play two Big East teams in Providence and Notre Dame, and they will also make trips to major northeastern cities Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York City during the season.
Bucknell will open the new campaign with three games in three days at the World Vision Basketball Invitational in Providence. In addition to the host Friars, Mercer and Bryant will also participate. The Bison have never before played any of those programs in men's basketball.
After a trip to Delaware for the return game from the 2009 BracketBusters, Bucknell will play its home opener on Saturday, Nov. 21 against Saint Francis (Pa.) at Sojka Pavilion. That will be a big day in Lewisburg, as the football team wraps up its regular season against Holy Cross earlier in the day.
Other non-conference home opponents include Cornell (Dec. 2), Loyola (Md.) (Dec. 28), Marist (Dec. 30) and Richmond (Jan. 2). Richmond will be making its very first trip to Lewisburg, while Loyola and Bucknell will square off for the first time since 1993.
On Dec. 22 the Bison will travel to South Bend, Ind., to face All-American Luke Harangody and Notre Dame. Bucknell last played the Fighting Irish in the 2002-03 season opener, falling 73-42.
Bucknell's other non-conference road games will come against Columbia (Nov. 24), Wagner (28), Binghamton (Dec. 4), Boston University (Dec. 6), La Salle (Dec. 19) and Dartmouth (Jan. 4).
Bucknell's 20th season of Patriot League competition will begin on Saturday, Jan. 9 against Navy. That will be followed by another home game against American on Jan. 13, capping a stretch of five out of six games at Sojka Pavilion. Later, the Bison will have another two-game homestand featuring Lehigh and Army (Jan. 27 and 30) and a three-game homestand against Holy Cross, Lafayette and Colgate (Feb. 13, 17 and 20).
The regular season wraps up on Feb. 27 at Army, with the Patriot League Tournament set to begin at home sites on Wednesday, March 3. The semifinals will be on Sunday, March 7, with the championship game slated for Friday, March 12.
