Bucknell Baseball Players Ben Allen and Andrew Brouse Selected to Play in Prospect League All-Star Game

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell baseball veterans Ben Allen (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) and Andrew Brouse (Kreamer, Pa./Midd-West) were named to the Prospect League All-Star Game this week. Allen and Brouse, who will be seniors in 2010, are playing baseball this summer with the Chillicothe Paints, which are based in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Allen, a starting shortstop for the Bison who will enter 2010 having with a consecutive starts streak of 83, is hitting a team-best .310 with 15 runs scored and 10 runs batted in for the Paints. Brouse, who was one of eight Bison named to the All-Patriot League Team in 2009, is hitting .280 with a team-best three home runs. He has also scored a team-high 19 runs.
The Prospect League All-Star Game will be played Wednesday, July 15, in Springfield, Ill. Chillicothe had a total of 10 players selected to participate in the contest. The Paints are currently in first place in the five-team Eastern Division with a 19-14 record heading into Friday evening's home contest opposite Dubois County.
The Prospect League consists of 11 teams in five states (Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania). The season lasts two-and-one-half months and spans more than 50 games. The final regular-season contest for Chillicothe is slated for Aug. 8 with the postseason to begin two days later.
Allen and Brouse helped Bucknell to its sixth Patriot League regular-season title in 14 years in 2009. The Bison finished the season 22-25 and 13-7 in Patriot League play.
