LEWISBURG, Pa. – One week after having seven student-athletes named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association Scholar-Athlete Team, the Bucknell women's water polo team had those same seven players earn similar recognition from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.
Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.20 to 3.40 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.70 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had two players recognized in the Outstanding category, three landed on the Superior list and two more were cited with positions on the Excellent ledger.
Senior captain Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who was listed in the Superior Category, was recognized by the ACWPC for the fourth time in her career. She graduated last month as the program's all-time leading scorer and earned a degree in English while posting a cumulative GPA of well above 3.5.
Freshmen Allison Vreeland (Los Angeles, Calif./Harvard-Westlake) and Hallie Kennan (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) were the two Bison to earn spots on the Outstanding list, while junior Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor) and freshman Becca Shopiro (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) joined Rowe in the Superior Category. Senior Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) and junior Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) rounded out the list of Bucknell honorees in the Excellent list.
In the pool, Bucknell went 18-17 in 2009 and tied for the regular-season CWPA Southern Division title. The Bison qualified for the Eastern Championship for the eighth consecutive year and have now tallied 105 victories over the last five seasons.
