LEWISBURG, Pa. - Aubrey Rowe's (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and Valentina Rozas' (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) names are scattered throughout the Bucknell women's water polo book and now they appear in one more position. Both were named Honorable Mention All-America by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches this week. It is the second consecutive All-America nod for Rozas and the first for Rowe.
The Bison have now had four Honorable Mention All-America selections in program history, all in the last four years. In addition to Rowe and Rozas, Meagan Gins was recognized in 2006 when she tallied 70 goals and 33 assists as a sophomore.
The first two-time Honorable Mention All-American in program history, Rozas had a banner junior campaign in 2009. She was a First Team All-CWPA Southern Division selection for the third straight year and finished third on the Bison with a career-high 97 points and second with a career-high 73 goals, the second-highest figure in program history. Rozas registered a team-high 89 ejections drawn, good for second all-time, and ranked second in steals to Rowe with 59.
Rozas posted at least four points 12 times this past season and will enter her final year ranked second in career ejections drawn (231), third in shots (456), fourth in career goals (190), sixth in career points (255) and seventh in career steals (151).
A starter in 34 games this past spring and 99 in her career, Rozas tied the Bucknell single-game record with seven goals against Occidental in March and her nine points in that contest equaled the most by a Bison in 2009 and was one shy of the program record, currently held by Rowe and Julie McLaughlin.
Rowe was a Second Team All-CWPA Southern Division selection, marking the third all-conference citation of her career. She capped an outstanding four years by breaking Bucknell single-season records for goals (75) and points (128) and ended first on the career points (358) and steals (251) lists. She ranks in the top six of nine Bucknell career statistical categories and in the top three on six of those.
Rowe, who served as team captain in 2009, was a three-time CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week this past year and registered 23 consecutive multiple-point games to end the season. Her 53 assists this past year are fourth-most in program history, while her 82 steals are third-most all-time.
An eight-time Dean's List member, Rowe was an Academic All-District selection last month, and along with Rozas, was named to the CWPA Scholar-Athlete Team this week. It was Rowe's fourth career academic honor from the CWPA.
Rozas and Rowe represented half of the four CWPA Southern Division players to earn All-America honors as Maryland also had two selections. The Bison and Terrapins tied for first place with matching 5-1 regular-season league records in 2009. Bucknell finished the season 18-17 overall and qualified for the Eastern Championship for the eighth consecutive season.
