LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive year the Bucknell women's rowing team had six student-athletes named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Scholar-Athletes, it was announced this week. The six Bison recognized for their academic prowess were Gillian Carter (Elverson, Pa./Twin Valley), Devon Mitchell (Medford, N.J./Shawnee), Meghan O'Reilly (Willington, Conn./Edwin O. Smith), Elizabeth Regan (Smithtown, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Kim Weaver (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and Mary Wilson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West).
The CRCA recognizes student-athletes who are at least sophomore standing, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and have been members of the institution's NCAA or IRA eligible boats for a minimum of 75% of the spring season.
This is the second straight year Bucknell has had six honorees. It has had 17 rowers recognized since 2007.
Mitchell, O'Reilly, Regan and Wilson are making their second straight appearances as CRCA National Scholar-Athletes, while Carter and Weaver are first-time honorees.
The second varsity eight was well represented on the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete list as Carter, Mitchell, Regan and Wilson were key members of that boat. O'Reilly and Weaver are members of the lightweight eight.
Bucknell, which won its fourth consecutive Patriot League title last month, still has one event remaining this year as the lightweight eight will compete at the IRA National Championship Regatta next week in California. The Bison won the event in 2007, claiming the only national title in school history.
