Bucknell Track and Field to Host Bison Outdoor Classic This Weekend

Bison Outdoor Classic Meet Information
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell's men's and women's track and field programs are hosting their first outdoor meet of the season this weekend at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The decathlon starts things off at noon on Friday, April 10. The women's hammer throw starts at 3 p.m. for field events and the first track event of the weekend will be the women's steeplechase at 5 p.m.
“The Bison Outdoor Classic has become one of the premier events on the East Coast,” said Bucknell head coach Kevin Donner. “Each year a number of NCAA qualifiers from all three divisions, as well as numerous IC4A-ECAC qualifiers, participate in the meet. This year will be no different. Teams from all over the country will compete in the distance carnival on Friday night under the lights. All the events have talented athletes and hopefully the weather cooperates. Traditionally, many of our team's top season marks have come from this meet.”
Some teams that will be competing at the Bison Outdoor Classic include: Clarion, Cornell, Cortland State, Duquesne, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Plattsburgh, Saint Francis (Pa.), Vermont.
In last year's Bison Outdoor Classic, Bucknell produced an NCAA Regional qualifier in then-freshman Laura Rycek, who won the javelin throw with a toss of 143 feet, 3 inches. Rycek's mark was the second-best throw in Bucknell history at that time. The meet also produced two ECAC standards for Bucknell.
The Bison picked up four IC4A-qualifying marks and two ECAC-qualifying marks at this past weekend's Colonial Relays, hosted by William and Mary, and an NCAA Regional qualifier at the Maryland Invitational on March 28.
Bucknell will be hosting the Bucknell Team Challenge on Saturday, April 18, beginning at 10 a.m.
