Bucknell Notes
Bucknell and Penn State met last Tuesday night with the Nittany Lions winning 6-5. The Bison plated four runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 5-5, but Penn State's Ben Heath produced a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth, plating what turned out to be the winning run.
Andrew Brouse has posted at least one RBI in each of his last five games and now has 39 this year. That figure is tied for 10th on the Bison single-season list and it leads the Patriot League. The junior has 12 multiple-RBI games this year, including six with at least three runs driven in.
Brouse hit .647 (11-17) in five games last week. He totaled two triples, two home runs and drove in 10 runs. He is now hitting .364 to rank sixth in the Patriot League. He owns a five-game hitting streak.
Ben Allen, who has a team-high 13 multiple-hit games this year, had two hits in both ends of Sunday's doubleheader against Lafayette. He has hits in seven consecutive games, one shy of the longest streak of his career. Allen has started 65 consecutive games at shortstop and along with Brouse is one of two Bison to start every game this year.
Sophomore Trey Frahler has been strong against Patriot League foes this year. He has pitched 11.1 innings, yielded 10 hits and allowed just one earned run in his two starts against Patriot League opponents Army and Lafayette. Frahler has seen his ERA go from 5.65 to 4.28 over that span.
Reliever Russell Seidell has permitted just one earned run over his last six appearances. Lafayette broke Seidell's 6.1 inning scoreless streak when it scored on a sacrifice fly against him in the sixth inning of Saturday's game one. Seidell has seen his ERA go from 11.12 to 5.84 over his last six appearances.
Bucknell just wrapped up a stretch where it played 13 of 14 games at home. The Bison were 6-8 during that span, including 6-7 at Depew Field. The Bison will play 13 of their final 16 games on the road. They are just 1-8 in road contests this season.
Senior Dane Grandizio enters Wednesday's game with 29 stolen bases in his career. He is just two steals shy of equaling Matt Capece for 10th place on Bucknell's all-time list.
Bucknell hitters have been hit by a pitch 43 times this year. The program record is 51 in 2006. Opponents have been hit by a pitch just 15 times.
Freshman Bob Donato has four multiple-hit games in his last seven starts, including a three-hit outing last week at Penn State.
Bucknell is 4-4 in Patriot League play this year. The Bison opened 3-1 for the third consecutive year.
