LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's water polo players Aubrey Rowe and Alison Carter were named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Co-Players of the Week on Monday after helping the Bison win three of their four games this past weekend at Kinney Natatorium. Rowe also earned Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week honors, while freshman Hallie Kennan was named the CWPA Rookie of the Week for the second time this year.
Bucknell (18-12, 5-1 CWPA Southern Division) closed out its regular season this past weekend with four home games. The Bison defeated league foes Princeton, George Washington and No. 20 Maryland before wrapping up the weekend with a loss to No. 19 Indiana. Bucknell finished the regular season tied for first place in the conference standings with Maryland, but earned the second seed in the Southern Championships due to goal differential against the Terrapins.
Rowe, who earned her third CWPA Player of the Week honor this season and the first Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week citation for a women's water polo player this year, registered 16 goals, five assists, 12 steals and 12 ejections drawn in the four games this past weekend. She netted at least two goals in each contest and averaged 4.7 goals in the three league games.
A senior who played her final home game on Sunday, Rowe scored a season-high five goals against both Princeton and Maryland. She also produced at least three steals in three games and equaled her season high with four ejections drawn opposite Maryland and Indiana, both nationally ranked foes.
One of the most accomplished players in Bison history, Rowe now ranks third on the Bucknell single-season steals list (74), third in points (109), fourth in assists (47) and sixth in goals (62). She is also among the Bison career leaders in goals (209), assists (130) and points (339), ranking second on each list.
Carter earned her first CWPA honor of the season as she became the fifth different Bison to be cited as player of the week this year. The junior stopped 33 shots and yielded just 29 goals in three starts for a save percentage of .532. Carter, who had two double-figure save performances, led Bucknell to a 3-0 mark in her three starts.
Carter eclipsed 400 career goals over the weekend and now has 429 in her career to rank third on the Bison all-time list. She has recorded a team-high 145 stops this year, while her 13 saves against Maryland were one shy of her career high.
Kennan, a valuable reserve, totaled one goal, four assists and two steals this past weekend. She recorded her third multiple-assist performance with a team-high two against Indiana on Sunday.
One of six Bison to play in all 30 games this year, Kennan started the week on a high note when she scored a goal against Princeton, making it a season-best three consecutive games with a goal. She now has 11 goals and 14 assists on the year despite making just two starts.
Bucknell has dominated the weekly awards from the CWPA this year. Five different Bison have combined to claim eight player of the week citations, including Rowe, who now has three to lead the team. Additionally, Kennan has combined with classmate Amanda Skonezney to earn five rookie of the week honors.
The Bison will be idle this coming weekend, but will face third-seeded Princeton in the first round of the Southern Championships on April 18. Game time is set for 11:30 a.m. in College Park, Md.
