LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Jeweliet Yost (Ventnor, N.J./Atlantic City), a member of the Bison women's rowing team, received a special award at the University's annual Senior Athletic Awards Banquet, sponsored by the Bison Club and held at the Elaine Langone Center on Tuesday, April 28.
Yost won the Ronald J. “Pete” Pedrick Award, presented to senior athletes “in recognition of demonstrated improvement and special contributions to Bucknell athletics over a four-year period.” Yost shared the award with Ryan Sandburg of the men's tennis team, who was the male selection.
In addition to Yost, several other student-athletes were honored at the banquet, including the winners of the Christy Mathewson Award, given to the most outstanding athletes in the senior class.
After rowing throughout her high school career, Yost transformed herself into one of the top coxswains in the Patriot League. A three-time All-Patriot League Team selection, Yost coxed the Varsity Eight to three of its four consecutive Patriot League Boat of the Year honors. The Ventnor, N.J., native has also been awarded Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Team and Lightweight All-American honors.
Most recently, Bucknell Rowing won its fourth straight Patriot League Championship. Yost has also led her squad to three consecutive Murphy Cups, two consecutive ECAC Metro Regatta titles and a national championship at the 2007 IRA Regatta in the lightweight varsity eight.
Yost has also seen her share of success off the water as the chemical engineering major is a member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. She recently initiated a joint research program between Bucknell and Estee Lauder and will continue her studies at the University next year, seeking her Masters in chemical engineering.
Bucknell is a highly selective, privately endowed liberal arts institution with an enrollment of approximately 3,500 undergraduate students. Bucknell competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the Patriot League and has full membership along with American, Army, Colgate, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy. Bucknell has won the Presidents' Cup, signifying the Patriot League's all-sports champion, in 14 of 18 years, including 10 of the last 11.
Recently, 17 Bison programs – the seventh-most in Division I – earned NCAA Public Recognition for having Academic Performance Rates in the top 10 percent nationally in their respective sport. In addition, Bucknell ranks fifth in Division I in the total number of CoSIDA Academic All-America selections, with 116 national Academic All-Americans since 1970.
