CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the seventh-place game at the Eastern Championship, the Bucknell women's water polo team lost to host Harvard by a 9-8 score Sunday morning at Blodgett Pool. The Bison finished eighth in the eight-team field as they concluded their season on a six-game losing streak.
Bucknell (18-17) did have two shots in the final 38 seconds of play that would have tied the game, but did not convert on either.
Bison senior captain Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley), who was playing her final career game, totaled two goals, two assists and seven ejections drawn. She finished the three-game weekend with 10 goals and 20 ejections drawn and completes her career first at Bucknell in career points (358), second in goals (222), and second in assists (136). Additionally, her team-best 75 goals this season places her atop the Bison single-season ledger.
Classmate Rachel McGillis (Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) earned the start in goal and made a career high-tying 13 saves in her final contest. She added one steal, contributing to the team total of 16.
The game was close throughout as Harvard (12-16) led 4-3 at the end of the first quarter and the score was tied 6-6 at halftime.
Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) and Kandis Canonica (Burlingame, Calif./St Ignatius) equaled Rowe for the team lead with two goals apiece, while Shana Palencia (Glendale, Calif./Hoover) dished out a pair of assists to also tie Rowe for team-high honors.
Even though the Bison ended their season with six consecutive losses, those defeats came by a total of just 13 goals.
