LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the second consecutive week, Bucknell's men's and women's track and field programs have tallied three weekly Patriot League awards. Junior Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) won the Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week award, while freshmen Ted Heitzman (Elysburg, Pa./Southern Columbia) and Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) each grabbed Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors.
Bucknell recently hosted the Bucknell Team Challenges and a number of Bison athletes registered strong performances, including two NCAA Regional qualifying marks. Both the Bison's men's and women's teams took first in the seven-team scored meet.
Anthony's distances in the long and triple jumps earned him his first Patriot League award this spring and fourth of his career. In the triple jump, Anthony produced a personal-best jump that won the event and qualified him for the NCAA Regional meet. The 49 foot, 10 inch mark also betters his second-place position on Bucknell's all-time performance list.
Fulmer's 4 minute, 38.71 second mark in the 1,500-meter run earned her Patriot League honors. Handily winning the race, Fulmer also positioned herself in eighth on Bucknell's all-time list. Fulmer also took second place (9:38.89) as a part of Bucknell's 4x800 relay team, behind Lock Haven (9:30.31).
For the male rookie recipient of the Patriot League award, Heitzman won for the first time in his career. Placing first in the javelin throw, Heitzman threw for a 196-5 mark, to beat his teammate, Steven Pierce, who already qualified for the NCAA Regional meet earlier this spring.
All three Bucknell award winners are expected to compete at this weekend's Red Flash Open in Loretto, Pa., hosted by Saint Francis.
