LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's men's and women's track and field programs racked up half of the Patriot League's weekly awards. The Bison received three awards with junior Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) winning Male Track Athlete of the Week, Robert Arent (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) claiming Rookie of the Week, and sophomore Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) earning Female Field Athlete of the Week honors.
With top performances coming from Bucknell's premiere home meet, the Bucknell Outdoor Classic, this past weekend, the Bison were able to grab three weekly awards for the first time since Jan. 21.
Huebner earned himself the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week Award with his 9 minute, 2.4 second second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to Adidas' Luke Watson, who ran the fastest time in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium's history. With his runner-up performance, Huebner also moved himself into eighth place on Bucknell's all-time steeplechase ranks, not to mention a near-30 second improvement from the steeplechase he ran less than a week before at the William and Mary Colonial Relays (seventh, 9:32.11).
Earning Male Rookie Athlete of the Week Award this week was Arent, who produced one of the most exciting performances at the Bison Outdoor Classic, with a come-from-behind victory in the 400 hurdles. With his time of 53.53, Arent positions himself in fourth-place on Bucknell's all-time performance list. Arent's mark was also an IC4A qualifier, the first of his collegiate career.
Frey was selected for the Female Field Athlete of the Week Award after her ECAC-Qualifying mark in the pole vault this past weekend. Frey vaulted 11-11 ¾ for fourth place and also tied her personal-best mark, which places her as the third-best performer in Bucknell track and field history.
Bucknell hosts The Bucknell Team Challenge at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 18, with events beginning at 10 a.m. All three weekly award winners are expected to be in action.
