LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's tennis saw its five-match winning streak snapped Saturday afternoon, falling 5-2 to Army at the Fieldhouse Courts. Paulina Gamboa (Mexico City, Mexico/Greengates School) earned a pair of victories for the Bison (12-5) at doubles as she partnered with Lauren Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's School For Girls) and at the No. 3 singles spot.
Gamboa's singles win came in easy fashion as the senior took the match over Sarah Giles-Madden 6-2, 6-2. Tania Varela (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy) earned Bucknell's second point of the day, taking the 6-1, 6-2 win over Army's Anne Houghton at first singles.
Although less successful, Dara Dwojewski (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Visitation) and Dumitrita Iepuras (Chisinau, Moldova/Germantown Friends School) fought hard at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively. Dwojeswski took Kristin Beehler three sets before falling 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Iepuras also attempted a comeback from a set down against the Black Knights' Michael Tollerton. The freshman was unable to pull off the victory, however, losing 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The Bison continue with their second Patriot League foe in as many days when they take on Lafayette on Sunday, April 12. Action on the Fieldhouse Courts starts at noon. Bucknell tennis will also be celebrating Senior Day.
