LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Doug Shribman (Marblehead, Mass./Belmont Hill) became the third consecutive Bison to be named Patriot League Baseball Player of the Week and Trey Frahler (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) picked up his second Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honor of the season on Monday. That duo helped the Bison to a 4-1 record last week, including three wins in four games against league foe Army.
Shribman, who earned his first career Patriot League honor, hit .471 and drove in 10 runs last week. He had a home run, double and triple and also scored three runs. He opened the week with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate in a 13-8 win over Bloomsburg. The first baseman drove in three runs in that contest and recorded three multiple-RBI games during the week.
Against Army, Shribman hit .417 in 12 at-bats. He drove in a career-high four runs as he homered and tripled during an 18-2 victory over the Black Knights.
Shribman is second on Bucknell, and fifth in the Patriot League, with a .354 batting average this season, while his 21 RBIs are second to Andrew Brouse's league-leading 29. Shribman is fourth in the Patriot League in RBIs.
Frahler (2-4), who copped his first career Pitcher of the Week honor earlier this month, was locked in a pitcher's duel with Army's Matt Fouch in the series opener with Army and prevailed. Frahler recorded his first career complete game and limited the Black Knights to five hits and one unearned run as the Bison defeated Army 2-1 in game one on Saturday. He tallied three strikeouts and allowed just three baserunners to advance as far as third base.
With his strong pitching performance, Frahler saw his ERA dip from 5.65 to 4.54. The one run he yielded was the fewest allowed by Bucknell in a game this year.
Frahler, a sophomore who is in his first year as a starter, now ranks sixth in the Patriot League in ERA, second in innings pitched (35.2) and is one of just four league pitchers who have registered a complete game.
Bucknell has now claimed six of the 18 possible Player, Pitcher and Rookie of the Week awards this season. Five different players have been recognized with those six awards.
Bucknell will be back in action for its lone road game in a three-week stretch when it travels to Penn State on Tuesday, March 31. The game is slated to begin at 6:35 p.m. and a live audio broadcast will be available on 90.5 WVBU and on the internet through SportsJuice.com.
