Bucknell Women's Rowing Wins Overall Points Trophy at Murphy Cup Again

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Schuylkill River) - The Bucknell women's rowing team tied the program record by advancing six boats to the finals of the Murphy Cup Regatta on Saturday. All six of those boats earned first-place finishes in the finals, bettering last year's four gold medals, as Bucknell claimed the overall points trophy at the competitive event for the third consecutive year.

Five of the boats that advanced to the finals also won their heats, while the lightweight eight did not compete in a heat, but still won its finals race.

The varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, novice eight, lightweight eight and novice four were the six boats that won in the finals for the Bison.

Five of Bucknell's boats won their finals race by more than three seconds, with the novice eight's 11.55-second victory over second-place Saint Joseph's the largest of the day. The novice four's 1.52-second win over runner-up Trinity was the closest of the six finals races, but was still a comfortable margin.

Bucknell's strong showing marks the third consecutive year it has won the overall points trophy at the Murphy Cup. The Bison totaled 57 points, while second-place Saint Joseph's had 32.

The Bison will be back in action next Sunday, April 5, when it takes on MIT on Walker Lake in Troxelville, Pa.
