LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Courtney Warren (Montour Falls, N.Y./Watkins Glen), a member of the Bucknell women's swimming and diving team, was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday following her weekend performance at the ECAC Championships that was highlighted by a first-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke. The victory was the first Eastern title for a Bison since Bucknell Athletics Hall of Famer Jen Myers won the 200 backstroke in 1997.
On Saturday, Warren was the only swimmer in the field to go under 56 seconds in the prelims of the 100 back. She then recorded a time of 55.53 in the finals to beat out second-place Amy Perrault of New Hampshire by .16 seconds.
A Second Team All-Patriot League member, Warren broke the school record in the 100 back with a time of 55.02 at the Patriot League Championships late last month.
The 2008 Patriot League champion in the 100 back also competed in the 50 free and 100 free at the ECAC Championships. Warren finished third in the 50 free (23.86) and fourth in the 100 free (51.40).
In addition to owning the school record in the 100 back, Warren is among the top 10 in Bucknell history in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 back. Her 100 free time this past weekend was .01 seconds shy of her personal best.
Warren's successful weekend helped a small Bison contingent finish 14th out of 26 teams at the ECAC Championships.
