LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Andrew Brouse (Kreamer, Pa./Midd-West) picked up his second weekly award as he was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week following his 17-RBI performance last week. The junior on the baseball team hit .423 in six games last week and was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Monday.
Brouse helped the Bison to a solid 5-2 record during a week-long trip to Florida. He registered two home runs and drove in 17 over the final six games of the trip. Overall, he belted three home runs and drove in 19 runs during the road trip.
The eighth-leading hitter in the Patriot League, Brouse owns an eight-game hitting streak and has posted at least one RBI in seven consecutive games. With five multiple-RBI contests last week, Brouse vaulted his season total to 21, one more than he had in all of 2008.
Brouse helped the Bison cap a successful trip to Florida when he completed a bottom-of-the-ninth comeback against UConn with a three-run, walk-off double that gave Bucknell an 11-10 victory. The Bison plated four runs in the frame, all with two outs.
A career .275 hitter entering this season, Brouse is hitting a team-best .368 and owns a remarkable .702 slugging percentage this year. He leads Bucknell in at bats (57), runs (13), hits (21), doubles (5), home runs (4), total bases (40), on-base percentage (.429) and stolen bases (3). Brouse is one of two Bison to have started all 14 games this year.
Bucknell will bring its 5-9 record to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. Brouse and his Bison teammates will make their home debut this weekend with a four-game series against Canisius, starting Friday.
