LEWISBURG, Pa. – For the third time this season, three Bucknell track and field athletes have been awarded Patriot League Athlete of the Week honors. Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) and Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) earned recognition as Field Athletes of the Week, while Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) was named the Male Rookie of the Week.
All three student-athletes competed at the high-caliber Penn State National Invitational last weekend with great success. Anthony finished fifth in the triple jump on Saturday with a leap of 49 feet, one inch. Although the junior had already achieved the IC4A qualifying standard in the event this season, he bettered his previous marks and recorded one of the top distances in Bucknell program history. Anthony competed in the long jump the previous day, finishing 17th with a jump of 22-1 3/4.
Musante began her weekend with a ninth-place finish in the weight throw at Penn State on Friday. The toss of 56-8 3/4 was an ECAC-qualifying mark as well as a personal best for the junior and the second-best throw in Bison history. She returned to Bucknell's Gerhard Fieldhouse on Saturday to compete in the weight throw (52-4 3/4) and shot put (41-0 1/4), finishing first and third, respectively.
Donaldson took 10th place in the 500 meters and helped the 4x400 meter relay team to an eighth-place finish. Although the freshman narrowly missed the IC4A standard in the 500 by .02 seconds with a time of 1:05.22, he rallied to help his relay team, also consisting of Clement Gyan (Yonkers, N.Y./Abraham Lincoln), John Picardo (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton Central) and Kerry Boyle (Conyngham, Pa./Hazelton), to achieve the mark with a time of 3:17.59. The 4x400 time was third-best in program history. Donaldson's 500 time was also a top-10 mark.
The award is Musante's third of the season, Anthony's second and Donaldson's first.
The Bison return to the track this weekend for the Sykes-Sabock Challenge at Penn State, beginning Friday, Feb. 6. Competition concludes on Saturday, Feb. 7.
