Bucknell Baseball Begins Second Weekend of Play Friday at Virginia Tech

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball team played four games at Virginia last weekend and will continue its tour of the Atlantic Coast Conference as it plays at Virginia Tech this weekend. The Bison will play a single game against the Hokies on Friday in Blacksburg, Va., while Saturday will feature a doubleheader. Bucknell will wrap up its second weekend of regular season play Sunday with a single game at VMI.

Saturday, Feb. 28: Bucknell at Virginia Tech (DH), 12 p.m.

Bucknell played four games at Virginia last weekend and lost all four. The Bison went winless in their first four games in 2008, but rebounded to win their next five.
With the conclusion of the three-game series at Virginia Tech on Saturday, Bucknell will have played nine of 10 games against ACC foes. The Bison went 1-1 against Florida State in the NCAA Tournament last year and will have played their first seven games this year against ACC opponents.
Ben Allen and Andrew Brouse both bring three-game hitting streaks into this weekend. Allen leads the team in hitting with a .313 average.
Brouse, who is tied for the team lead with two extra base hits, has both of Bucknell's RBIs this year.
Seven members of the Bison pitching staff logged at least three innings during the opening weekend at Virginia.
Despite yielding four hits and four walks in 4.0 innings, freshman Alex Cillo gave up just one run in his first career appearance on Sunday. He is second on the Bison to Chris Yamaguchi with a 2.25 ERA.
Bucknell head coach Gene Depew is two wins shy of 500 in his career. He brings a 498-576-7 into the weekend.

Bucknell is slated to play its first game in its home state of Pennsylvania next Tuesday, March 3, when it travels to La Salle. The Bison and Explorers have not met since 1992. La Salle leads the all-time series, which began in 1969, 3-2.
