UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped its first contest of the season, 18-5 at Penn State on Wednesday evening despite two goals from freshman Ryan Gribbon (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes) and a goal and an assist from junior Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon).
Marisa Lozano and Kerry Shea scored three goals apiece for the Nittany Lions, who improved to 2-0 on the season.
Gribbon scored the first goal of the game off a Michelle Milot (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) assist just 3:07 in, and the Bison led 2-1 after Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) scored unassisted at the 19:23 mark. But that would be Bucknell's final goal until the halfway mark of the second stanza, as Penn State rattled off 12 straight goals.
Three in the last two minutes of the first half made it 7-2 at intermission. Shea scored only 16 seconds into the second period, and her third tally of the night made it 13-2 at the 16:23 mark before Gribbon and sophomore Becca Devine (Arlington, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes) scored in succession to end the drought.
Sophomore Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) recorded six saves, while freshman Jenna Wadsworth (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) made her collegiate debut and stopped three shots in 13:20 of relief work. Stephanie Ellis and Dana Cahill combined for five saves for the Lions.
Penn State finished with a 37-14 shot advantage and won 15 of the 25 draws.
The next contest for the Bison will be on Sunday against Robert Morris, at 1 p.m., at Graham Field.
