LEWISBURG, PA - Behind a game-high 12 points from Lori Houck '00, the Orange team topped the Blue team, 35-27, in the 2009 Bucknell University women's basketball alumni game in Sojka Pavilion on Saturday, February 14. Twelve alumni returned to play in the contest, including current head coach Kathy Fedorjaka who received her master's from Bucknell in 1992.
After getting off to a slow start, the Orange squad closed the first period on a 12-2 run and never looked back on its way to victory. Monica (Nawarskas) Trout '94 joined Houck in double figures with 11 points, while Cammie (Reinhart) Rowntree '85 and current Bucknell assistant coach Stephanie Marciano chipped in with four points apiece. Bucknell Hall of Famer Karin (Wegener) Knisely '79 and Cindy (Huebner) Fagan '85 each tallied a bucket, while Lorrie (Layer) Schadt '85 handed out a trio of assists.
The Blue team was paced by Denis Cohen '83 with eight points, followed by Hall of Famer Ann (Kirwin) Anderson '87 and Kim (Delfs) Watkins '99 who each scored seven in the game. Carolyn (Connors) Gates '85 had three points, while Coach Fedorjaka rounded out the scoring with a pair.
The teams had so much fun on the court that they decided four periods of action was not enough. The extra period ended in a tie, so they played an additional three-minute "overtime." When it was all said and done, Schadt and Lindsey Hollobaugh '07 had found their way into the scoring column.
Following the game, the alumni enjoyed a small reception in the McGee Room in Sojka Pavilion before returning for dinner in the same suite and Bucknell's victory over Holy Cross that evening.
