LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Bucknell freshman guard Bryson Johnson (Pictou, Nova Scotia/St. David's Catholic) was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday. It was the second rookie citation for Johnson and the fourth for a Bison player in seven weeks this season.
Bucknell's lone outing last week came at Notre Dame, and despite taking a 101-69 loss, Johnson was very impressive for the Bison. In 22 minutes off the bench he produced 17 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist, and he did not commit a turnover.
Johnson hit three 3-pointers in eight attempts and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line against the 11-2 Fighting Irish.
On the season, he is averaging 9.9 points per game and has committed only 11 turnovers in 12 games. Johnson leads the team with 29 3-pointers and is shooting 34.5 percent from the arc. He is also shooting a stellar 88.0 percent from the foul line.
Johnson has scored in double figures in seven of the team's 12 games, with a high of 19 points against Wagner. He tallied 18 points on opening night against Mercer and has hit three or more 3-pointers seven times.
Johnson was also named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Nov. 16. Teammate Mike Muscala is also a two-time rookie of the week honoree, winning it on Dec. 7 and again last week (Dec. 21).
The Bison take a 4-8 record into Monday night's home game against Loyola (Md.).
