LEWISBURG, Pa. -- CBS College Sports has announced that it will broadcast live the 2010 Bucknell-Navy men's lacrosse game. The contest, slated for Saturday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, is a rematch of last spring's Patriot League Championship game.
Bucknell is 3-6 all-time against the Midshipmen, but five of the nine games, including each of the last three, have been decided by one goal. Last season the two teams split a pair of contests. In the regular-season meeting in Lewisburg, the Bison prevailed in thrilling fashion, winning 8-7 on Charlie Streep's buzzer-beater.
That win propelled Bucknell to a perfect 6-0 Patriot League record and the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. The two teams squared off again at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in the league title game, and this time it was Navy prevailing 9-8 in yet another contest that was not decided until the final whistle.
For Bucknell, the televised game at Navy will represent its 2010 Patriot League opener. The Bison begin the season on Feb. 13 against Duke in Atlanta, Ga.
In 2010 the Bison will have to replace Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Billy Haire and Goalie of the Year Nick Sciubba, but they return an All-America attackman in Austin Winter, as well as the reigning PL Rookie of the Year in Streep. In fact, Bucknell welcomes back nine of its 12 multi-goal scorers from a year ago, along with first team all-league faceoff man Jake Clarke. But coach Frank Fedorjaka will have to overcome the loss of two starting close defensemen, two goalies who played significant minutes, and the bulk of the short-stick defensive midfield unit.
