LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell men's basketball team has two preseason events slated for later this week, one on the floor and one downtown. The team's annual Backcourt Club Tip-Off Reception will be held this Thursday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Towne Tavern on Market Street in Lewisburg. Then on Saturday, the Bison will stage an intrasquad scrimmage that will be free and open to the public at 1:30 p.m. in Sojka Pavilion.
At Thursday evening's tip-off event at the Towne Tavern, a $5 admission fee includes food and beverages, as well as raffle tickets for basketball-related prizes. The grand prize will be a pair of 2009-10 season tickets. Head coach Dave Paulsen and his staff will be on hand to talk about the upcoming season, and returning starters Patrick Behan and Darryl Shazier will offer remarks as well.
The Bucknell men's basketball squad has already conducted a pair of NCAA-mandated, closed-door scrimmages against other Division I programs, and now the public will have an opportunity to catch the Bison in person for the first time during Saturday's controlled scrimmage. Play will largely be situational, as Paulsen and his team continue to prepare for the start of the 2009-10 season, which is now just a little over one week away.
Bison fans can hear Paulsen live on the radio on the "Drew & The Crew" show on Wednesday morning between 8-8:30 a.m. on WQKX 94.1-FM.
Bucknell opens the 2009-10 campaign at the World Vision Basketball Invitational in Providence, R.I., Nov. 13-15. The Bison open up against Mercer on Friday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. The home opener is slated for Saturday, Nov. 21 against Saint Francis (Pa.) at 7:30 p.m.
