LEWISBURG, Pa. – Capping off a very successful weekend for Bucknell cross country, head coach Kevin Donner has been named the Patriot League Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year for the fourth time. Donner led the Bison to their eighth women's title and the men to a third-place finish at the Patriot League Championships at Colgate last Saturday.
Bucknell's women's squad earned its eighth Patriot League Championship title in Hamilton, N.Y. Now in his ninth year as the Bison's head coach, Donner has led the Orange and Blue to five of those victories.
Donner is not new to the title of the league's top coach. In addition to his four selections as the women's top coach, he also won the league's Women's Indoor Track Coach of the Year honors from 2002-07, the Women's Outdoor Track Patriot League Coach of the Year award on four occasions and the Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year award in 2000.
Joining Donner among the award winners at the 2009 Patriot League Cross Country Championships was a quintet of All-Leaguers. Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) was named First Team All-Patriot League, while Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) and Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) were Second Team selections.
On the men's side, Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./The Governor's Academy) and Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) were both First Team honorees. The Bison men placed third as a team, their highest finish since 2006.
Navy's Al Cantello was chosen as the Patriot League Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Bucknell will race again on Saturday, Nov. 14. The team will travel to Princess Anne, Md., for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships. The men are slated to race at 12 p.m., followed by the women at 1:15.
