
No. 19 Princeton Ends Bucknell Men's Water Polo's Winning Streak at Six, 12-5

PRINCETON, N.J. – In a matchup of teams that both defeated No. 10 Navy on Saturday, the No. 18 Bucknell men's water polo team was unable to keep its six-game winning streak alive as No. 19 Princeton downed the Bison 12-5 Sunday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool. Richie Hyden (Melbourne, Australia/Greenwich (Conn.)) led Bucknell with two goals, but the Tigers outscored the Bison 7-2 in the second half for their third straight league win.
Bucknell (10-6, 4-1 CWPA Southern Division) had defeated Princeton by one goal last Saturday at Kinney Natatorium, but could not pick up a second consecutive win over the Tigers. The Bison trailed 5-3 at the half, but a 4-0 fourth quarter propelled Princeton to the easy victory.
Hyden's two goals lifted his team-leading figure to 34, while his career total now stands at 161. Andrew Nelson (Palos Verdes, Calif./Palos Verdes), Spencer Richley (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Howie Kalter (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy Andover) chipped in one goal apiece, while Sean Coghlan (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) dished out a pair of assists.
In goal, Nick Donahue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lawrenceville) made nine saves and garnered two of the team's nine steals.
Bucknell, which is 3-6 against ranked opponents this year, fell to 4-4 at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool, the site of this year's NCAA Championship, this season.
With the win, the Tigers are now 7-5 overall and are now tied for first in the CWPA Southern Division with Bucknell with a matching 4-1 league mark.
The Bison will have a rare mid-week game this Thursday, Oct. 8, when they play a 7:30 p.m. game at league rival George Washington. The next day they will depart for California to play in the UCI Invitational.Thursday's contest will be the sixth consecutive league game for Bucknell.
