STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- All five Bison improved on their morning scores and the Bucknell women's golf team improved by 10 strokes in the afternoon on Saturday as the Nittany Lion Invitational got underway. The Bison opened with a 328 before bouncing back with a 318 in round two. Sophomore Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) is the low Bucknell player after posting rounds of 79-76.
Bucknell had compiled scores of 318 or better in each of its first five rounds of the fall season, including a 313-307 in a record-setting performance two weeks ago at the Princeton Invitation. But the team struggled a bit after a fog delay at the start of Penn State's annual fall tournament, counting scores of 78-79-84-87 in the morning.
But bouyed by Lee's 76 and a second straight 78 from Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland), things improved later in the day. Leah Antkowictz (Aliquippa, Pa./Quigley Catholic) followed up an 84 with an 81, and Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) and Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) both posted second-round 83s after opening with 87s.
The Bison are in 14th place at 646, four strokes behind Youngstown State. Rollins posted scores of 300-296 and has a 12-shot lead over Western Michigan. Eastern Michigan (612), Penn State (618) and Ball State (619) round out the top five.
Joanna Coe of Rollins is even par (74-70) through 36 holes and has a one-shot lead on Britney Hamilton of Western Michigan, Emily Ransone of Penn State and Daniela Vargas of Rollins.
The third and final round is slated for Sunday morning.
