LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell cross country will make the short trip to Bloomsburg University to take on the Huskies on Saturday, Oct. 24. The recently scheduled meet is slated to begin with the women's race at 10 a.m., followed by the men at 10:30.
WOMEN'S NOTEBOOK
- Bucknell faced a tough field and some tough weather in its last meet. The Penn State National Invitational was moved to Lock Haven, Pa., last week after snow made the course unusable. Although the race was reduced to 18 teams, Bucknell still took on five nationally ranked teams. The cold did not slow the Bison down, however, as they placed seventh overall.
- Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional), Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) and Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's) have solidified their positions as the Bison's top three runners. Moniz has been the first Orange and Blue finisher in each of the team's first four meets, but Hooper has been close behind each time. Fulmer, who has raced just twice this season, is quickly making up for lost time. She finished just three seconds behind Moniz in Lock Haven last week, completing the six-kilometer course in 21:53.
- Bucknell has moved up in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic poll this week. The Bison are now seventh, up two spots from the previous ranking and the highest they have been placed this season. They are also the highest-ranked Patriot League team for the first time this fall, having overtaken Navy, which is now in 10th.
MEN'S NOTEBOOK
- The Bison men had an equally successful outing at the Penn State National Invitational in Lock Haven, Pa., last week. As a team, Bucknell took fifth out of 11 squads.
- Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./The Governor's Academy) earned his third top-10 finish in four races, placing eighth overall in Lock Haven. The senior also placed second at Colgate's Harry Lang Invitational and at Duquesne this season.
- Joining Huebner in the top spots for the Bison last week were Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Stephen Dorsey (North Wales, Pa./La Salle HS), Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade) and Baron Willeford (New Orleans, La./Columbia Prep (N.Y.)). McGoldrick and McNamara had made it a habit to be in Bucknell's top five this season, but Dorsey and Willeford were reclaiming their success from previous seasons. Both made their first 2009 appearance among Bison scorers in the meet.
- The Bison continue to climb the ranks in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic poll. Now in eighth, Bucknell has improved its positioning nearly every week this season after starting the year ranked 12th. Bucknell trails Navy (fourth) and American (seventh) in the regional poll.
UP NEXT
Following the meet with Bloomsburg, the Bison will head into their championship season. Bucknell will travel to Hamilton, N.Y., for the Patriot League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31.
