I never believed everyone who told me my four years at Bucknell would go by faster than I could imagine - I still have a hard time believing that I'm a senior in college. I can no longer roll my eyes at my parents when they tell me "it seems like just yesterday we were dropping you off for your first day of college!" because I now feel the same way. The memories I have made at Bucknell will last with me for the rest of my life, and it will be impossible to talk about my four years here without bringing up rowing. My friends who don't row always say I somehow relate whatever we're talking to back to rowing, and it's true. Rowing has been such an essential part of my Bucknell career and has been the common factor in many of my standout memories and my proudest accomplishments. Rowing has helped shape the person I am today, from the shy, awkward freshman, to the confident, but still awkward, senior. Rowing has given me the opportunity to truly push myself and take risks while still providing an incredible support system. As scary as it seems, the values of determination, teamwork and resilience that rowing has instilled in me will help me in my life after Bucknell more than I can imagine even now.
It is easy to get caught up in the emotions of my last year of college. While it is sad to think that this may be my last time trial in a single, or my last time sculling as a Bison, we still have our entire spring season to prepare for. Looking at our team, I am blown away by our potential. As we press every day in the singles, we are constantly working on our technique and power, because we know it will make a big difference in the spring. It is so inspiring to see the novice women who have never even rowed before making huge strides in the singles every practice. Even though we only practice as a full team once a week, I know that every member of this team is working to create the momentum we will need to carry us through the winter and into an exciting spring racing season. We are all hungry to prove ourselves and show other teams what we can do. While our last weeks in the singles may be winding down, even we seniors still have the opportunity for incredible firsts. As we progress into winter training and then to our racing schedule our hunger and the work we are doing now in the singles will truly pay off. As tempting as it is to think of everything as "the last time", I can't help but get excited about all of the firsts we will get to be a part of this year.
