Bucknell Cross Country Travels to Lehigh for Paul Short Run

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell cross country will try to start its October off on a good note, taking on the talented field filled with regionally and nationally ranked opponents at the Paul Short Memorial Run hosted by Lehigh on Friday in Bethlehem, Pa. Bucknell's men's squad will race at 11 a.m., followed by the women at 11:45.
The meet at Lehigh's Goodman Campus will feature more than 100 teams, while more than 40 of those squads will compete in the College Gold races with the Bison. Among those going toe-to-toe with the Orange and Blue are Patriot League foes, Army, Colgate, Lafayette, Navy and the host team Lehigh.

MEN'S NOTEBOOK
- Bucknell will begin the 8-kilometer course at 11 a.m.
- Bucknell will be among the 10 teams representing the top 15 in the Mid-Atlantic Region to compete on Friday. The Bison are ranked 12th and will be joined by No. 2 Princeton, No. 3 Villanova and No. 4 Saint Joseph's among others. Lehigh (No. 10) and Navy (No. 14) are also included in that group.
- Among the nationally ranked teams in the College Men Gold race are No. 7 Iona, No. 19 North Carolina State, No. 30 Princeton and No. 34 Villanova. - In their last time on the course, the Bison fell in a rare dual meet at Duquesne, 24-32. Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./The Governor's Academy) led the squad with a second-place finish overall, completing the 8K course in 25:08. Conor McNamara (Baldwin, N.Y./Chaminade), Kevin McGoldrick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson), Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and Ian Shore (South Orange, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) rounded out the Bison's top five. The Dukes have since moved up in the Mid-Atlantic rankings to seventh.
- Huebner's second-place finish in Pittsburgh two weeks ago was a repeat from his first meet of the season. The senior captain has placed second in each of his two races this fall. Classmates McNamara and McGoldrick have also posted a pair of top-10 finishes each with McNamara claiming fourth at both the Harry Lang Invitational and Duquesne and McGoldrick finishing fifth and sixth at the meets.
WOMEN'S NOTEBOOK
- Bucknell will begin the 6K course at 11:45 a.m.
- Like the men, the women's squad will also be among 10 of the Mid-Atlantic's top 15 schools racing on Friday. Bucknell enters the meet ranked 11th in the region, trailing teams such as No. 1 West Virginia, No. 2 Villanova and No. 6 Penn. Navy (No. 9) and Lehigh (No. 11) will also compete.
- Among the nationally ranked teams in the College Women Gold race are No. 4 West Virginia, No. 5 Villanova, No. 37 Tennessee and No. 39 Indiana.
- The Bison took on Duquesne two weeks ago in a dual meet in Pittsburgh, falling 23-33. Sarah Moniz (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional) was second overall with a time of 18:30 on the 5K course. Alysha Hooper (Meaford, Ontario/St. Mary's) was close behind in third. Kelly Grosskurth (Huntington Stateion, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East), Kara Weichler (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and Alexa Griffiths (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) also scored for the Orange and Blue. Duquesne now ranks 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
- Moniz has led the Bison in each of their first two meets this year. In addition of finishing second at Duquesne, the junior also has a fourth-place finish to her name at the Harry Lang Invitational. Joining her in the top-10 club are Hooper with fifth- and third-place finishes and Grosskurth, who finished seventh and eighth to start the season.
UP NEXT
Bucknell will head to University Park, Pa., for the Penn State National Invitational on Friday, Oct. 16. The meet marks the mid-way point for the Bison's season.
