After having a weekend off from competition last week, the Orange and Blue return by welcoming 18 other teams to Gerhard Fieldhouse for their third indoor meet of the year. In their last outing, both the men's and women's teams finished first in the Bucknell Heptagonal. The men's squad received individual first-place finishes from Kerry Boyle (Conygnham, Pa./Hazelton) in the 500-meter dash, Jordan Donaldson (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) in the 800 and Clayton Smith (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) in the 1,000. The 4x400 and 4x800 relay teams also claimed victories.
The women proved equally successful, getting wins from Christina Muccio (Andover, Mass./Andover) in the 55 and 200, Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) in the mile and Megan Hathaway (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Niagara Wheatfield) in the 400. Rebecca Frey (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) and Chelsey Musante (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) also claimed individual victories in their respective field events, as did the 4x400 relay.
To round out Bucknell's successful week, three Bison received Patriot League accolades for their performances in the meet. Muccio earned the league's Rookie of the Week honor, while Musante was chosen as the Field Performer of the Week. On the men's side, Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) was selected Track Performer of the Week after finishing second in the 55-meter hurdles and sixth in the 200. His 55m hurdle time (7.67 seconds) was an IC4A qualifying mark and the fourth-best time in program history.
The Penn State National Invitational will feature more than 1,000 athletes from more than 40 teams from across the country, including Kentucky, which is ranked 16th among men's teams and 25th among women's teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and Arkansas, with the nation's 14th-ranked women's team.
