Team is a simple four-letter word but has a vast variety of definitions. Friends, family, classmates, cheerleaders, competitors, tutors, students, etc. Each aspect is important in making Bucknell Women's Rowing what it is. On our team, each person brings something different. Each part makes up the whole. The team is there supporting, pushing, and working with you every step of the way. They are there when you need someone to talk to, complain to and help with homework. It is almost impossible to walk anywhere on campus without seeing a fellow rower.
Georgia is the place where I feel the impact and strength of the team the most. Starting as a novice rower, winter GA was one of my first encounters with the upperclassmen and freshman recruits. I met the junior "abroaders" and had my first talk with Page, who completely intimidated me, but turned out to be harmless. With the help of my teammates, I learned the route to run the path through the woods, I learned what Picnic Tables mean and I learned to always be at least 10 minutes early for anything rowing related. Now, as a sophomore, I find myself leading others through the woods and spreading knowledge of the little things I now know from experience, such as convincing a cabin mate that Carol is in fact a sophomore and not a senior. But I am still able to look to others for help with classes or rowing advice. Our teammates are our best resources.
Coach constantly tells us the team comes first, and I am starting to realize the depth of this concept. We are the team we are because of the girls that make it. The best are the best because of the hard work and dedication of the team as a whole. A Ford F-350 cannot be pushed 2.5 miles with the strength of one girl alone. It takes all 50 girls working together and supporting each other to make it to the finish.
