Throughout this training trip so far, a quote that Coach Kish shared with us on the first day of the New Year, the first day of practice here in Elberton, has been in the front of my mind. The quote said: "It takes a lot of courage to follow your dreams." As I sit here tonight in cabin 11, I can say with confidence that each one of my teammates has this courage.
As a novice last year, the sport, the people, and the culture of Bucknell Rowing was all new to me; I went with the flow, and found myself in awe with the girls of this unique and enthralling program. As I begin my second semester of sophomore year, I carry out each day with the memories of my experiences so far, and the new dreams I have for the future. I want to take from my time on the team as much as I can, and I want to contribute to the success and growth of the team and my teammates as much as possible. I have learned to dream big, and that hard work, can lead you to those dreams.
Here in Elberton, in the secluded state park, our team creates a bond, and a spirit that we will carry with us as we pursue our dreams on, and off, the water. As each consecutive boat pulls away from the dock when the sun is rising in the morning, I see a fire in each rower's eyes. It reflects the unique spirit that we find here together on our trip. It encompasses our team's past, but thrives on the desire to grow and expand our horizons. The flame shows the courage of the Bucknell Women's Rowing team. The courage to press, the courage to commit, the courage to trust in each other, and the courage to dream.
