LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell Department of Athletics and Recreation is partnering with Coca-Cola and its "Give it Back" program to diligently increase its recycling efforts and reduce its carbon footprint. Among the many initiatives the department has enacted is placing recycling containers throughout all athletic facilities.
In conjunction with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, recycling containers have been placed in each of Bucknell's 27 athletic team's locker rooms, while recycling bins for paper are in all office suites.
Bucknell is encouraging its fans to recycle by reading public address announcements encouraging the practice at all events and games, while the video boards in Sojka Pavilion, Davis Gym and Kinney Natatorium also convey the message to fans.
The Bison women's basketball game against Lehigh on Jan. 28 has been designated as "Go Green Day". Reusable grocery bags will be handed out for the game, which will also be broadcast on PA SportsFever. The "Pack the House" promotion will also take place that evening.
Additionally, Bucknell Athletics participates in and supports Recyclemania, an intercollegiate competition which now involves more than 400 college campuses. Over a 10-week period participating schools compete in various categories measuring the success of their recycling and waste prevention efforts.
