LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's golf team is scheduled to host its annual fall tournament, the Bucknell Invitational, this weekend at the Bucknell Golf Club. The two-day event consists of 18-hole rounds both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
Bucknell will have two teams entered in the tournament, as will visiting Penn State and Lehigh. Other teams in the field are Rutgers, Youngstown State, Mount St. Mary's, Saint Francis (Pa.), Robert Morris, Wagner, Kutztown, McDaniel and Catawba.
Ninth-year Bison head coach Kevin Jamieson held team qualifying this week, and returning starters Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) and Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) will be joined in Bucknell's top five by a trio of first-year players: Minjoo Lee (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston), Kelsey Meybin (Midlothian, Va./Saint Gertrude) and Alex Brown (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill).
In qualifying, that group combined for a team score of 308, which would have tied the team record set last spring at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic at Oklahoma.
Jurenovich is coming off a terrific rookie year, when she led the team with an 80.2 scoring average. She tied for eighth in her first Big South Championship and missed earning all-conference honors by just a single stroke. Moran, a senior, has been a regular in the Bucknell lineup since day one, and she is looking to come back strong after taking the 2007 fall season off in order to study abroad.
In the lineup for the Bucknell "Blue" team will be senior Katsie Calhoun (Barrington, Ill./William Fremd), junior Leah Antkiewicz (Aliquippa, Pa./Quigley Catholic) and freshmen Cynthia Iselin (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and Brittany Rendell (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier).
Bucknell turned in a best-ever fourth-place finish at the 2008 Big South Championship, but the Bison graduated four seniors from last year's record-setting squad. The talented freshman class is hoping to fill those graduation gaps quickly, beginning this weekend.
Results from the Bucknell Invitational will be posted on BucknellBison.com following each round.
The Bucknell Golf Club is a par-70 layout that measures 6,021 yards. Admission is free for spectators.
