LEWISBURG, Pa. - A pair of Bucknell freshmen cross country runners were recognized by the Patriot League on Tuesday, as Stephanie Fulmer (Pottstown, Pa./St. Pius X) and Dave Brown (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) were rewarded for their efforts at the Buffalo Stampede in Buffalo, N.Y., on Saturday. Fulmer was named Patriot League Female Runner of the Week, while Brown was selected as the Patriot League Male Rookie of the Week.
Fulmer finished fifth out of 104 runners during the 5K Buffalo Stampede, with a time of 18 minutes, 37 seconds. She was the top finisher for the Bison, who placed second overall in the event, behind only No. 5 Akron of the Great Lakes region. Bucknell is currently ranked No. 13 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
This is not the first strong showing of the year for Fulmer, as she has consistently been among the best runners for Bucknell this fall. She placed 10th (out of 128) at the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational, running the 5,000-meter course in 18:32. She also finished fifth at the three-mile Bison Open, registering a time of 17:39.51. This past May, as a senior at St. Pius X in Pottstown, Pa., Fulmer finished first in the 1,600 meters at the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Track & Field State Championships, running a personal best 5:02.87.
Brown placed 16th at the 8K Buffalo Stampede, finishing with a time of 26:43.6. His score helped the Bucknell men to finish second behind Binghamton in the team competition. Binghamton is ranked No. 14 in the Northeast region, while the Bison men are ranked No. 11 in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Like Fulmer, Brown has been among the top runners this year for the Orange and Blue. He finished 21st (out of 141) at the Running Fit-Detroit Titan Invitational, completing the four-mile course in 21:03, and ninth at the four-mile Bison Open, with a time of 20:21.09.
The next meet for the Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams is on Friday, Oct. 3, at the Paul Short Memorial Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa.
