Bucknell's Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Compete in Carlisle

The Bucknell men's and women's cross country teams sent some of their runners to the Dickinson College Long-Short Course Invitational in Carlisle, Pa., on Saturday, Sept. 20, while a first group of runners competed at the Buffalo Stampede in Buffalo, N.Y. The women's team placed fourth in Carlisle, while the men's team finished sixth.
The Bison women finished with a total score of 131, combining the scores of their top-three runners from both a 4K race and a 6K. Johns Hopkins finished first on the day with a total score of 54, in the 15-team field. Lauren Wiemken (Howell, N.J./Howell) finished 22nd in the 4K with a time of 15 minutes, 28.65 seconds, followed by Molly Burke (33rd, 15:42.04) (Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y./Hastings) and Laura Cundey (42nd, 15:54.82) (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) for the Orange and Blue. Bison senior Kim Hassett (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) finished in seventh place in the 6K with 23:23.57. Melissa Smith (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) finished in 14th place with a time of 23:48.78 and Erin Heidecker (18th, 24:07.50) (Waterford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) rounded out the scoring for Bucknell.
The Bison men finished sixth in the 19-team field, with a score of 161. The total score is combined from the scores of the top-three finishers in a 4K and an 8K. Host school Dickinson College, finished first with a score of 47. Christopher Boyd (Gaithersburg, Md./Thomas Sprigg Wooton) finished 13th in the 4K in 12:35.30 to lead the Bison. Clayton Smith (26th, 12:50.85) (Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Keith Sanson (29th, 12:52.00) (Shelton, Conn./Shelton) also scored for Bucknell. Bucknell's top runner in the 8K was Josh Clark (Vincetown, N.J./Seneca), who finished 29th. Charles Murphy (32nd) (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) and David D'Alessio (39th) (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) were the next top finishers for the Bison. Final times were not available.
The Bison return to competition of Friday, Oct. 3, at the Paul Short Memorial Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa.
