Bucknell Baseball Welcomes Nine Newcomers for 2009 Season

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The 2008 Patriot League champion Bucknell baseball squad will welcome nine newcomers to the roster for the 2009 season, head coach Gene Depew has announced today. Jack Boehm, Alex Cillo, Bobby Donato, David Duffett, Ryan Ebner, Mark Figgie, Jr., Matt Lamore, Scott Reed and Russell Seidell will join the Bison as members of the Class of 2012.
"We are very pleased with this year's recruiting class," said Depew. "It is an individually talented group and a collectively diverse group that should meet our position needs well. The class includes several versatile athletes who can potentially be two-way players for us. There is a good mix of left- and right-handed hitters and throwers, as well. We are looking forward to getting on the field this fall with these young men to begin preparing for another successful season."
The following is an alphabetical list of the nine individuals who will join the Bison as members of the Class of 2012:
Jack Boehm (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) - RHP - Graduated from New Trier High School, coming out of the same program as current Bison Trey Frahler and recent graduate Austin Turban ... went 9-1 with New Trier as a senior ... attended Bison Baseball Camp ... has fluid delivery with loose arm and was clocked consistently at 82-84 that weekend.
Alex Cillo (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock Township) - RHP/SS - Graduated from Loyalsock Towship High School ... served as team's closer junior and senior year while also starting at shortstop ... led team to 2008 state championship ... will play a position as well as pitch for the Bison ... fastball has topped out at 91 ... earned first team area all-star recognition ... was the Williamsport Sun Gazette's runner-up for 2008 Pitcher of the Year honors after going 5-1 with six saves and a 1.59 ERA, totaling 70 strikeouts in 48.1 innings.
Bobby Donato (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) - OF - Graduated from Williamsport Area High School ... is expected to compete for playing time right away in the Bison outfield ... left-handed hitter with good speed ... hit over .500 as a junior ... followed up by batting .457 his senior season with 29 runs scored, 37 hits, 11 doubles, five triples five home runs and 18 RBI ... set school records for most extra base hits (21) and batting average (.525) ... named the squad's Offensive Player of the Year twice .. earned Central Penn League All-Star first team honors in 2007 and 2008 ... played for the Maryland Oriolelanders, the Baltimore Orioles scout team in 2007 ... member of the Maryland Select squad in 2008 ... was the second runner-up for the Williamsport Sun Gazette's Player of the Year award.
David Duffett (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) - 3B/SS - Graduated from North Allegheny High School where he was a teammate of current Bison infielder David Bergstrom ... impressed coaching staff with his defensive ability during the Bison Baseball Camp ... right-handed hitter has also shown good power at the plate ... will compete for playing time right away ... hit .412 as a senior with 21 runs scored, 28 hits and 20 RBI.
Ryan Ebner (Reading, Pa./The Hill School) - LHP/1B - Completed a post-graduate year at The Hill School after graduating from Wilson High School ... is a 6-7 left-handed pitcher who will also be a recruited walk-on for the basketball team ... attended Bison Baseball Camp where he impressed the coaching staff with his hitting and defensive abilities at first base.
Mark Figgie, Jr. (Riverside, Conn./Brunswick) - RHP/OF - Graduated from Brunswick High School ... hits left-handed and throws right-handed ... at Bison Baseball Camp, showed potential both at the plate and on the mound ... father, Mark Figgie, Sr., is a Bucknell alumnus who played both football and baseball for the Orange and Blue.
Matt Lamore (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) - OF/RHP - Graduated from Crestwood High School where he lettered three times in baseball and four times in swimming ... named Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the Trojan Classic as a junior and was the Trojan Classic Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2008 ... led Wyoming Valley Division I in hits as a junior ... finished his high school career batting .401 with a .691 slugging percentage, eight home runs, eight triples and 55 RBI ... on the mound, posted a 3.54 ERA with 147 strikeouts in 118 innings pitched ... served as team captain as a senior ... earned a Wyoming Valley First Team All-League selection from the Citizen's Voice in 2008 ... playing American Legion ball, was a two-time a Wyoming Valley AL All-Star and a two-time Pennsylvania Region 5 All-Star ... helped his squad to a Region 5 runner-up showing in 2007 ... in his American Legion career, hit .363 with a .588 slugging percentage, six home runs, six triples and 49 RBI ... on the mound, had 106 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched and a 3.32 ERA ... three-year member of the Moosic Mets All-Star team and served as captain in 2007 ... as a member of the swim team at Crestwood High School, was a two-year captain, a three-time District 2 medalist and a three-time state qualifier ... aunt, Clara Lamore Walker swam in the 1948 Olympics and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Scott Reed (Reston, Va./South Lake) - C - Graduate of South Lakes High School where he lettered four times in baseball and three times in football ... biggest asset is his arm strength ... has been clocked throwing at 89 miles per hour ... was a four-year varsity starter ... named to the all-district second team in 2007 and to the all-district first team in 2008 ... also tabbed an all-region first team selection in 2008 ... served as team captain as a senior ... led the team in RBI both junior and senior seasons ... also paced the squad in batting average (.500, 32-for-64), runs scored (21), on-base percentage (.549) and slugging percentage (.828) as a senior ... had a 20-game hitting streak ... in football, was the starting quarterback in 2007 and served as team captain ... threw for 1,380 yards and 14 touchdowns on the way to all-district honors.
Russell Seidell (Granville, Ohio/Granville) - LHP/1B/OF - Graduated from Granville High School where he was a National Merit Scholarship Finalist ... left-handed pitcher who will also compete for playing time both at first base and in the outfield at Bucknell ... all-league and all-district honoree ... was named the Newark Advocate 2008 Player of the Year ... mother, Bobbi Castens-Seidell '79 played basketball and field hockey for the Bison and is a member of the Bucknell Athletics Hall of Fame.
