Five Bucknell Women's Water Polo Players Earn Academic Honor from ACWPC

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Five Bucknell women's water polo players were honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches this week when they earned All-American Academic Awards. As a team, Bucknell posted a 3.19 GPA during the spring semester, ranking it eighth among the teams listed.
Student-athletes were recognized in three levels: 3.2 to 3.4 GPA (Excellent), 3.41 to 3.7 GPA (Superior) and 3.71 to 4.0 (Outstanding). Bucknell had one player recognized in the Superior category and four on the Excellent list.
Aubrey Rowe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was the lone Bison to appear in the Superior category, while Alison Carter (Costa Mesa, Calif./Newport Harbor), Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley), Whitney Allen (Hillsborough, Calif./Menlo) and Valentina Rozas (Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) were on the Excellent list. All five student-athletes earned similar recognition from the Collegiate Water Polo Association last month.
In the pool, Bucknell posted a record-setting 26-10 mark in 2008. It was ranked for six weeks during the season, climbing as high as No. 19 nationally, and won the ECAC Championship for the first time in program history. The Bison also equaled their best finish at the Southern Championships (2nd) and posted their second-best showing at the Eastern Championship (6th).

Whitney Allen (Excellent recognition) – 16 goals, team-high 89 ejections drawn in 2008
Alison Carter (Excellent recognition) – team-high 244 saves, .548 save percentage in 2008
Meagan Gins (Excellent recognition) – 57 goals, 45 assists in 2008
Valentina Rozas (Excellent recognition) – team-high 68 goals, 20 assists in 2008
