LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell assistant director of athletic communications Todd Merriett was recently named a Sports Information Director of the Year by the Collegiate Water Polo Association. Merriett was one of five sports information professionals to be honored for their coverage of water polo during the 2007-08 academic year.
Merriett recently completed his fourth year working in the Bucknell Athletic Communications Office. He has worked closely with both the Bison men's and women's water polo programs throughout his tenure. Among his myriad duties that aid the water polo programs are compiling statistics, serving as a liaison with the media, maintaining the Web site (BucknellBison.com) and producing the annual media guides. In 2005 Merriett served in a media relations host capacity for the NCAA Men's Water Polo Championship that was held at Kinney Natatorium.
In addition to his work with the water polo programs, Merriett has served as the primary athletic communications contact for a number of other Bison sports, including women's basketball, men's soccer, softball and women's rowing. He has been heavily involved with promoting all of Bucknell's 27 athletic programs.
A 2002 graduate of Le Moyne College, Merriett spent his first two years in the athletic communications profession at Army.
Bucknell's water polo teams both had strong seasons in 2007-08. The Bison men's team went 20-13 last fall, its first 20-win campaign since 2001. It finished the season ranked 19th nationally and took fifth at the Eastern Championship. The Bucknell women's team posted the best season in program history, going 26-10 this past spring. It was ranked nationally for six weeks and climbed as high as No. 19 nationally.
