
Bucknell Men's Track and Field in Second After Day One at PL Outdoor Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's track and field team completed day one of the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, Friday afternoon, in second place with 40 points, behind host Navy in first with 67 points. Army sits in third (34 points), Lehigh is fourth (15), American is fifth (10), Colgate is sixth (9), Holy Cross is seventh (8) and Lafayette is eighth (3).
Sophomore Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) ran an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.36 in the prelim of the 110-meter hurdles to qualify for the final and establish a new school record for Bucknell. He topped Ed Loges' record of 14.44, set in 1996 as Yehl previously held Bucknell's fourth-best time (14.66). Yehl finished third with junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) also qualifying for the final with an IC4A-qualifying and career-best time of 14.69 for sixth place. MacLeod's time is the fifth-best in program history.
In the prelim of the 100-meter dash, MacLeod went on to qualify for a spot in Saturday's final with an eighth-place finish and a time of 11.08. Qualifying for the final of the 200-meter dash was junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton), running a time of 21.86 and finishing fourth.
Field event scorers on day one included senior James Meyer (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Pacific Palisades) in the hammer throw. Meyer led Bucknell with a fourth-place finish and a distance of 168-6. Also scoring in the event was sophomore Jonathan Lockhart (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) in sixth place (154-0). Bucknell had one athlete score in the javelin throw. Junior Christopher Gabryluk (Bath, Pa./Northampton Area) led the way for the Bison with a distance of 181-0 for fifth.
In the pole vault, senior David Mante (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) was the lone scorer for the Orange and Blue. He notched a second-place finish with a height of 15-3. Two Bison picked up team points in the long jump. Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) earned a third-place finish with a distance of 23-1/2, while freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) followed in fourth with a mark of 22-11 ¾.
Senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery Ala./Montgomery Acad.) posted a top finish for Bucknell in the 10,000-meter run. He finished second with a time of 31:09.35, while junior Clinton Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock) also scored, taking third in 32:11.51. Bucknell took sixth in the 4x800 relay with a time of 7:40.91.
After day one of the decathlon, sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) compiles 3,416 points, while sophomore Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) has 3,375 points. White ran a time of 11.49 (755) in the decathlon 100-meter dash, went 21-3 ½ (695) in the long jump, 36-6 ¼ (554) in the shot put, 6-2 (696) in the high jump and 52.19 (716) in the 400-meter dash. Meanwhile, Vogler ran a time of 11.54 (744) in the decathlon 100-meter dash, went 21-3 ½ (695) in the long jump, 35-3 ¾ (531) in the shot put, 5-10 ½ (619) in the high jump and recorded the fastest time of decathlon athletes in the 400-meter dash (50.63, 786).
The Patriot League Championships will conclude on Saturday in Annapolis, starting with combined events at 9 a.m., track events at 10:45 a.m., and field events at 11:30 a.m.
