
Bucknell Men's Track and Field Takes Third at PL Outdoor Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's track and field team notched a third-place finish at the 2008 Patriot League Outdoor Championships, as the league meet concluded on Saturday afternoon in Annapolis. The Bison compiled 137 points behind first-place Navy (199) and second-place Army (179). The Orange and Blue finished ahead of fourth-place Lehigh (51.5), fifth-place Colgate (41.5), sixth-place American (35), seventh-place Lafayette (23) and eighth-place Holy Cross (16).
Junior Kevin Macleod (East Longmeadow, Mass./East Longmeadow) was Patriot League Champion in the 400-meter hurdles, running an NCAA East Regional time of 52.44. His time was a career best and also the second-fastest time in program history.
Junior Kerry Boyle (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton) notched the league title in the 400-meter dash, running an IC4A-qualifying time of 47.83. Also scoring in the event was freshman Guy Castranova (Trenton, N.J./Notre Dame), placing fourth in 48.78, the ninth-fastest time in Bucknell history. Boyle went on to score in the final for the 200-meter dash, taking sixth with a time of 22.10.
Sophomore Timothy Medlock (Evan Mills, N.Y./Indian River) led the way for Bucknell in the shot put. He placed third with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 52-4 ½, which is the second-best distance in program history. Also scoring in the event was freshman Zachary Shapiro (River Edge, N.J./River Dell Regional). He placed fifth with a distance of 51-4 ¼, which is the sixth-best in Bucknell history.
After setting a new school record in the prelim of the 110-meter hurdles on Friday (14.36), sophomore Andrew Yehl (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown), placed second in the final with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.43. MacLeod also scored in the event, placing sixth with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.79. MacLeod went on to place seventh in the final for the 100-meter dash, running a time of 11.19.
Sophomore Kyle Anthony (Barryville, N.Y./Eldred Central) notched a third-place finish in the triple jump with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 48-7 ½. Also posting an IC4A-qualifying time was Bucknell's 4x400 relay squad. The Bison ran a time of 3:15.66 for second place and the fifth-fastest time in school history.
On Day Two of the decathlon, sophomore Ryan White (Elkins Park, Pa./Father Judge) compiled an IC4A-qualifying point total of 6,255 and sophomore Thomas Vogler (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) tallied 6,199 points. White went 15.96 in the decathlon 110-meter hurdles (737), 94-3 in the discus (440), 14-5 ¼ in the pole vault (731), 124-1 in the javelin (411) and 5:06.99 in the 1,500-meter run (520). Vogler had the top finish in both the 1,500-meter run (4:51.94, 607) and the javelin (168-9, 610). He also went 17.82 in the 110-meter hurdles (542), 104-9 in the discus (503) and 12-5 ½ in the pole vault (562).
In the high jump, freshman Nicholas Hruch (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) finished second with a mark of 6-6 ¼, while freshman Drew Fitzgerald (Ballston Spa, Pa./Ballston Spa) took third with a height of 6-4 ¼.
Two Bison scored in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Andrew Huebner (Hampton Falls, N.H./Governor Dummer Academy) placed second with a time of 9:17.57, while senior Andrew Corral (Bellport, N.Y./Bellport) took fourth with a time of 9:24.96. Senior Wallace Campbell (Montgomery, Ala./Montgomery Acad.) scored for Bucknell in the 5,000-meter run. He placed fourth with a time of 15:03.37.
Bucknell's 4x100 relay squad picked up a fifth-place finish, stopping the clock at 42.67.
The Bison are now set to send qualifiers to the IC4A Championships in Princeton, N.J., May 16-18.
