
Bucknell Men's Tennis Upsets Colgate, 4-3

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis team played its second of two matches this week on the road, defeating Colgate, 4-3, to pick up its first Patriot League win of the season. The Bison moved to 8-6 overall, 1-1 in league play, while the Raiders moved to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in the Patriot League. Sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) had the clutch win for the Bison at the No. 3 singles position to secure the win.
To open the day, Colgate picked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and 3 positions. Junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon) and senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) were defeated by Martin MacIntyre and Tyler Deck, 8-6, moving the pair to 9-4 on the season at No. 1. At No. 2, junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)) improved to 8-5 on the season, picking up the lone doubles win for the Bison against John Nogueras and Michael Yassky. Senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn,/New Canaan) and freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) are now 9-4 on the season after losing to Phil Bernasek and Ruslan Goussiantnikov, 9-8 (10) at No. 3.
In singles play, Sandburg picked up the first win for the Bison at the No. 2 position. He defeated Nogueras, 6-1, 6-2, to move to 9-6 overall and 5-5 at No. 2 this spring. Then, at No. 4, Brenner won against Jamie Bernasek 6-4, 7-5, to improve to 8-7 overall and 3-6 at No. 4. Malloy was victorious over Goussiantnikov at No. 6, 6-3, 6-1, bringing his record to 8-5 overall and 2-2 at No. 6. Hascoe defeated Deck, 7-6 (4) and 7-6 (4) at No. 3 to bring home the win for the Bison. Hascoe is now 8-5 overall and 5-5 at No. 3.
Reibeisen fell to McIntyre, 6-3, 6-4, moving to 6-4 on the season at No. 1 and Kovic fell to Yassky, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 5, bringing his record to 7-7 overall and 5-4 at No. 5.
After Bucknell's match against Colgate, Malloy continues to lead the Bison in doubles wins this season, with ten. Young, Reibeisen and Sandburg follow, each with nine doubles wins. Sandburg now leads Bucknell in singles wins, adding his ninth of the season against the Raiders.
Reibeisen continues to set Bucknell's all-time combined victories record, still with 139 wins, while Sandburg now tallies 112 career victories for second all-time. Reibeisen owns Bucknell's all-time singles victories record with 73 wins and Sandburg sits at No. 7 with 46 wins. Reibeisen and Sandburg remain tied for the all-time doubles victories record, still with 66, while Brenner is at No. 3, adding his 56th career doubles win against Colgate.
Bucknell is now set to take on Penn State in University Park, Pa., next Wednesday, April 9, at 3 p.m.
