LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior defender Lauren Deitrich (Collegeville, Pa./Hill School) and junior midfielder Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) have earned All-Patriot League honors in women's lacrosse for the third year in a row, and sophomore attack Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) earned her first career all-conference citation on Wednesday, the Patriot League office announced. All three Bison players earned second-team honors.
Buechel is Bucknell's do-it-all midfielder, and she earned a second-team all-league certificate after being named to the first team in both 2006 and 2007. Adept at both ends of the field, Buechel ranks fourth on the team with 31 points (22 goals, 9 assists), she leads the team and ranks seventh in the nation in draw controls with 46, she is tied for the team lead with 26 ground balls, and she is second on the squad with 15 caused turnovers.
She has a point in all but one game this season and multiple points in 10 of 13. Buechel had a five-point game with three goals and two assists in Bucknell's upset victory at Ohio State, and she enters Wednesday night's season finale with four straight games of three or more points. One of the program's all-time best at corralling draw controls, she is averaging 3.5 per game this season and has 21 in her last four games, including a season-high seven against Wagner on Apr. 15. Buechel had a huge game against a good Colgate team, with three goals, one assist, six ground balls, six draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Buechel went over the 100-point mark this season and now has 114 career points with one full season yet to come.
Deitrich garnered her third consecutive second-team all-conference nod. One of the top takeaway defenders in the league, Deitrich leads the Patriot League and ranks fourth in the nation in caused turnovers with 29 in 13 games. She has had five games this season alone with four caused turnovers, and she has 114 in her career.
Deitrich also has three goals and two assists this season, giving her 44 career points. She has started all 13 games this season, and all 61 in her standout four-year career.
In only her second year, Donohue has developed into one of the top scorers in the Patriot League. She has shattered school records for assists (34) and points (68) in a season, the latter record having stood for 24 years. Donohue leads the Patriot League in assists per game, ranks second in points per game and fourth in goals per game.
Donohue has three or more points in all but two games this season, including an incredible 13-point showing against Wagner on Apr. 15. Her eight assists and 13 both broke Bucknell single-game records, and both totals are the highest in all of Division I lacrosse this season.
Donohue already has 106 career points with one game remaining in her sophomore year, and her 49 assists rank third on Bucknell's career list.
Bucknell is 6-7 on the season entering Wednesday night's finale at Columbia.
