LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior women's water polo player Meagan Gins (Albuquerque, N.M./Valley) was named the CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week following her performance at the Southern Championships, where she tallied six goals and dished out four assists in two games. She is the third different Bison to earn the award this year, joining Valentina Rozas and Alison Carter.
Gins' best game of the weekend came in the Southern Championships title contest against Princeton, which moved into the national rankings on Wednesday. Gins posted four goals and one assist in a tight 10-9 overtime loss to the Tigers. Two of Gins' goals came in the first of two three-minute overtime periods.
Earlier in the day Gins helped Bucknell advance to the title game of the Southern Championships for the second time in program history with a team-high five points (2g, 3a) in a 13-4 victory over George Washington.
Gins now has 54 goals and a team-high 41 assists on the season. Her 95 points rank third on the Bucknell single-season list, while her assist total ranks her tied for fourth on that ledger.
Bucknell's all-time leader in goals (234) and points (344), Gins ranks third on the career assists list with 110.
Gins, who is also the Bison all-time leader in ejections drawn (264), shots (566) and games started (126), will lead Bucknell (25-8) into the Eastern Championship this weekend. The fifth-seeded Bison open the three-day event Friday at 12:30 p.m. against No. 4 seed Princeton. The two teams have played three times this year with each contest decided by a slim one-goal margin.
