NINETY-SIX, S.C. -- The Bucknell women's golf team made up some ground on Tuesday at the Big South Championship, improving on its first-round score by two strokes while moving into a tie for fourth place with Radford.
Despite not getting a score in the 70s, Bucknell's team toal of 328 was good enough to make up the four-shot deficit on the Highlanders, which shot 332 on Tuesday.
With temperatures in the mid-50s along with moderate breezes at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor, freshman Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) was Bucknell's low player for the second straight day. Jurenovich carded an 80, and her 36-hole total of 158 is good for a tie for eighth place.
Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), who was named to the Big South All-Academic Team on Monday night, shot 84, to slip from the top 10 into 18th place.
Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) shot 82, five strokes better than the previous day, while Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Kristen Phalen (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) both shot 83.
Charleston Southern remained in the lead after posting a 316 on Tuesday. Its two-day total of 621 is still six shots clear of Coastal Carolina. Winthrop's 311 was the best team score of the day, moving the Eagles within one shot of second place.
Bucknell and Radford are both at 658, followed by High Point at 666 and Holy Cross at 713.
Charleston Southern's Olivia Higgins shot 76 in round two and has a three-shot lead over Sara Hester of Winthrop for the individual title.
The third and final round will begin Wednesday morning.
