
Bucknell Men's Tennis Drops Match, 5-2, At Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell men's tennis team played its third of four matches this week, falling to Army by a score of 5-2 in West Point, N.Y. The Bison moved to a record of 9-8 overall and 2-2 in league play while the Black Knights now own a season record of 13-5 overall and remain undefeated in league play with a record of 4-0.
Army took the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Bucknell's lone doubles win came at the third position with freshman Mark Malloy (Bronxville, N.Y./Hackley School) and senior Ben Young (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) defeating Tripp Johnson and Jordan Girdley by a score of 8-6. Young and Malloy now own a record of 11-4 this spring.
At No. 1 doubles, Army's Phil Muhawi and Eddie Kang defeated senior Ira Reibeisen (Armonk, N.Y./Rye Country Day-Upper School) and junior Ryan Sandburg (Orange, Calif./Canyon), 8-6, to bring the pair to a season record of 9-7. At No. 2, Sean Harris and Chris Albornoz topped junior Jonathan Brenner (Manhasset, N.Y./Chaminade) and freshman Anton Kovic (Montreal, Quebec/Milton Academy (Mass.)), by a score of 8-4, taking the pair to 9-7 this spring.
In singles, Bucknell picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions. Sophomore Zach Hascoe (Greenwich, Conn./Brunswick) improved to 7-6 at the third position and 10-6 overall with a win against Albornoz, 6-2, 6-3, while Malloy defeated Bruno Luciviero by a score of 6-4, 6-1, to improve to 3-3 at No. 6 and 10-6 overall.
At No. 1, Army's Kang topped Reibeisen by a score of 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 2, Harris defeated Sandburg by a score of 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out singles play, Johnson won his match over Brenner, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at No. 4 and Girdley defeated Kovic, 6-4, 7-6 (3) at No. 5.
After Saturday's match, Malloy continues to lead the Bison in doubles wins with 12 this season, while Young follows with 11. In singles, Hascoe, Malloy and Sandburg boast a team-high 10 wins this spring.
Bucknell is now set to close out a four-match week on Sunday in Easton, Pa., taking on Lafayette at 12 p.m. for its third Patriot League match in four days.
